Arriving on the island by ferry, they are greeted by the servants Mr and Mrs Rogers, who had arrived two days before the other eight guests and had prepared the mansion. However, Christie appeared 11 days after this event and continued her life without any explanation. The fact that his car crashed into a tree by a lake also worried his fans. One of the most important mysteries about Agatha Christie is that she disappeared in 1926 and was not heard from for a while. After marrying his second wife, who is an archaeologist and travels a lot, Christie’s novels began to take place mostly in international settings by the 1930s. Miss Marple, a charming old amateur detective, was also very popular. Another character she created on top of that is Miss Marple. The work and the character she created were highly appreciated. Jump desktop review12/5/2023 Jump Desktop Connect has one main button that says Add a User. Armed with the app installed on the mobile device, you launch Jump Desktop Connect on your PC/Mac. The automatic installation is so fast and easy that I didn’t even get a chance to capture screen captures before it was done! I had to kill it and start over to remember how to do it. As nerdy as the NosillaCastaways are, if there’s an easy path and a hard one … which one would you pick? The other option is called Automatic and it’s designed for people who don’t want to fool around with network settings and complex configurations. I read the instructions (clearly created in Clarify a long time ago) and got bored a third of the way through. You can do it manually which is a big fat pain. There are two ways to connect to your desktop. You buy the mobile app as described, and then you install Jump Desktop Connect on your Mac/PC. If you use iOS and Android though, you have to buy a license for each. If you buy it on Android, it works on all of your Android devices to drive all of your Macs and PCs. If you buy it for iOS it works on all of your iOS devices to drive all of your Macs and PCs. The second thing to like is that it’s available for Android too, and it can control both Macs and PCs. The first thing to like is that Jump Desktop is only $15 for iOS. I hadn’t heard of Jump Desktop before, so I decided to check it out. This week, Tim Chaten of Club Nintendo and the iPad Pro Podcast mentioned on Twitter that he uses an app called Jump Desktop from to control his Mac from his iPad. In any case, I never went forward with a purchase of Screens. I wish I’d documented the problem, but it’s possible the version in SetApp was limited in some way. When I had a SetApp subscription I gave it a whirl and it didn’t do what I wanted. I’ve heard Dave Hamilton of the Mac Geek Gab talk often about Screens and how well it works for him. In any case, it would be slick to be able to have my 12.9″ iPad act like a Mac. Maybe because I’ve walked 9 miles already? While I run/walk over 9 miles a day and around 18,000 steps, the idea of going up the stairs to do something quickly on my laptop when I’m all comfy in my easy chair in front of the TV is exhausting. The problem to be solved is pure laziness. For a long time I’ve wanted an app that would allow me to control my Mac from my iPad.

Cult of the lamb animation12/5/2023 And we had four or five animators across all of the Lamb trailers, including myself. We have a character layout role, which isn’t always someone who’s an animator themselves, but more of a strong illustrator. Everything from concept to what you see is us, which is pretty exciting. We actually wrote all the scripts and storyboarded everything. The publisher, Devolver Digital, put a lot of trust in us. We were given a lot of creative freedom on the Lamb project. But all the filmmaking decisions, we make together. So on our Toon Boom Harmony projects, I’m a little more on tools. He’s the head of 3D here, and I’m the head of 2D. Who collaborated on this project, and what were their roles?īill: David and I co-direct all of our projects. It was the biggest animation order we’d received since we started doing this.Ĭult of the Lamb‘s announcement trailer, animated by Half Giant. Then on the strength of that, Devolver Digital, ordered three more trailers from us. That’s a lot of exposure, getting your trailer in the opening night presentation for Gamescom. We did an announcement trailer for their game, which premiered at Gamescom 2021, which was a pretty big deal for us. Getting that job is pretty much the reason that we’re in business today. So that’s how we initially got hooked up with them. And eventually got to Julian Wilton, the director of Cult of the Lamb. We did a couple of 3D trailers, and then based on the strength of those, word-of-mouth spread a bit. We started off making game trailers for friends, as we have friends in the game industry. My experience is in children’s television, where I used a lot of Harmony. David Smith (my co-director) and I both have backgrounds in film and TV animation. How did animating Cult of the Lamb ’s trailers impact work at Half Giant?īill: We started Half Giant a couple of years ago. In the launch trailer animated by Half Giant, The Lamb fights enemy cultists and attempts to rescue new recruits.

Talos principle key area 212/5/2023 Having the option to earn additional hints would have made the game much less stressful for me. When I used one and it gave me no help, I felt cheated because the hints are so rare. In the hardest puzzles, Elohim’s messengers will give hints, but these hints were sometimes vague and a puzzle themselves. My favorite part of the game, being able to skip puzzles I didn’t understand, was gone. (“I’ll show you, Elohim!” I shouted, stuck in a puzzle for 30 minutes exasperatingly repeating the same failed logic until I left to do a different one and suddenly realized the solution to the one I had been stuck on.) Unfortunately, the puzzles become dramatically more complicated in the final third of the game, when skipping puzzles is no longer a luxury. When I took too long on a puzzle, Elohim reminded me that I could try again at a later point when the solution just came to me. There are close to 120 puzzles with sigils of different colors and shapes, but there are multiples. The screen indicates which sigils unlock the door or equipment, and for the majority of the game, getting stuck on one puzzle doesn’t mean progress is at a halt. That all changed in the final third of the game, which frequently left me at a loss.Įach puzzle rewards a sigil, which unlock tools for later puzzles and new areas to explore. For someone like me who is not necessarily a pro at 3D puzzles, I was able to comfortably ease into the first third of The Talos Principle with challenges that hit a sweet spot of being tough but not seemingly impossible. The puzzles’ difficulty increases over time, guiding you toward finding creative ways of using the tools and the environment. The game does something better smaller, light puzzles let you easily find the purpose of the jammer, connector, and hexahedron. The beginning equipment you can use to navigate to the sigils is never explained through tutorials. If at first you don’t succeed, try again - and boy did I fail time and time again. Problem-solving in The Talos Principle is paramount to proceeding in the game. Little bits of narrative in the archives act as a motivator to solve Elohim’s puzzles, and I never felt bored by the nonlinear story I slowly uncovered. The Talos Priniciple is never explicit about what’s happening, and it does a wonderful job of implying events occurred. Furthermore, the occasional fuzziness or glitching in the walls reminds me that this world is artificial, like this character. Had I chosen to play in third-person – the game defaults to first-person, and there’s no real need to change it – I would have seen the mechanical body of the main character. I realize my fingers are not flesh and bone. I reach a terminal and select a command to type. It’s all very biblical.īut the main point of The Talos Principle is the question: “What makes someone human?” Elohim encourages me to solve puzzles but beware of a tower that will only bring temptation. The archives hint at a catastrophic event that dooms humanity. That’s not fully answered until the end, but glimpses of the narrative occur through archives of emails and blog posts as well as audio recordings of a researcher. Why am I solving these puzzles? I asked myself. In these puzzles, I had to use jammers to open barriers and stop turrets, connectors to link beams to unlock doors, fans to push things into the air, and more. Elohim urged me to collect sigils, Tetris-like shapes, by completing increasingly difficult puzzles. Playing as an AI unit in a digital world that masqueraded as a Garden of Eden, I was never really certain of what I could trust. Whether it was a puzzle set up by the ambiguously benevolent god Elohim or debates with the Milton Library Assistant on the terminals, I circled around, changing my mind frequently - other times being steadfast in my decision based on a gut feeling. I’ve known for a while that I don’t process information in a step-by-step manner, being able to think ahead and predict what will come next. The Talos Principle is a game where your mind will do circles. So when I stood at a computer terminal in the philosophical puzzler The Talos Principle debating personhood, I had a similar feeling of conversations going around in circles. While in school, I learned that there are many different ways of thinking about something, but some may be more right than others.

Bee hive boxes12/5/2023 This Old Bee House: Study Deems Hive Boxes Drafty, Inefficient (entomologytoday. Cook notes that about half the heat loss is through the lid therefore, “a well insulated lid could reduce stress in the hive and increase forager availability.” The polystyrene version’s heat loss was 23 percent of the amount lost by the wooden box. The authors compared the heat loss of a standard wooden box to a polystyrene model where the internal temperature was a honey bee-idyllic 35 C and the outside temp was 25 C. Standard Langstroth hives hold 10 frames per box, however 8 frame hives are available as well. How many and which size is used in the apiary is up to the beekeeper. The deep box is 9 5/8 tall, a medium is 6 5/8 tall and a shallow super is 5 3/4 tall. “It is not an easily applicable constant!” In the standard hive, beekeepers can use hive boxes of 3 different heights. “The reason I left bees out of this study was that there are far too many behaviours that occur in the hive for thermoregulation,” Cook says. All the experiments looked at the heat loss only from the boxes and their non-living components (honey, wax, etc.). In their study, the researchers calculated the heat loss of the boxes along with the thermal impact of certain beekeeping practices. It needs to be between 34.5 and 35.5 degrees Celsius (approximately 94-96 degreesFahrenheit) or it adversely impacts the brood (eggs, larvae, and pupae), so the bees work to maintain that ideal temperature in various ways, such as fanning with their wings to cool or shivering to warm. Honey bees are persnickety about the temperature of their home. “From there, the design of the hive screamed of thermal inefficiencies.” Cook and colleagues’ research on the thermal properties of typical hive boxes quantifies their leakiness and highlights the potential impacts on the bees and their keepers. “I had a small bee yard peppered with sensors to determine how the bee hive itself behaves thermally,” he says. While studying industrial design as an undergraduate, Cook looked at how to build a better hive box. Cook says via email that the commonly used wooden hive boxes “are designed for the human first, with the bee a vague afterthought.” candidate at Queensland University of Technology in Australia and lead author on the study, published in March in the Journal of Economic Entomology, which examined the thermal dynamics of the traditional managed honey bee hive box. Honey bees just can’t win.ĭaniel Cook is a Ph.D. And occasionally someone comes along and takes away part of the insulation (honey). It’s a wooden box based on a nineteenth century design that leaks and gains heat just like you’d expect it would. A new paper in the Journal of Economic Entomology adds another knife: the typical house beekeepers provide for honey bees. Wallace, University of Georgia, )Įuropean honey bees ( Apis mellifera) suffer from an astonishing array of problems- Varroa mites, hive beetles, foulbrood, chalkbrood, stonebrood, deformed wing virus, 20-plus other viruses, poor diet, predation, pesticide exposure-it’s death by a thousand cuts. That’s bad news for the honey bees inside, who must expend energy to maintain their favored internal hive temperature. The classic wooden hive box used by beekeepers worldwide, first designed in the 1800s, is prone to temperature swings, according to a study by researchers at Queensland University of Technology in Australia. Personalities are a little blah on the whole, and the chibi-ness of the portrait art makes romancing some of the guys uncomfortable at best. The variety here is good, but the quality leaves something to be desired. Dirk has matured since last we saw him, now working as the mail carrier for our titular towns. The Tale of Two Towns has six boys to offer, including returning Grand Bazaar boy Dirk. This is the first game on our list in which I can understand romancing more than a couple of the guys, and that’s worth some considerable points in this competition. The portrait art style is pretty cute, and the bachelors have distinct personalities in a way they hadn’t in previous games (it’s better writing). Tree of Tranquility is where the bachelors start to get good! We’ve got our variety-eight bachelors again-and the series’ graphics are on the up and up. The level of thought put into these gentlemen is nothing to be impressed by. Personalities are pretty average here, and also… the doctor is literally named Doctor. More Friends of Mineral Town gets points for variety-eight bachelors!-but also loses some for looks (what is happening with Cliff’s hair?) and general art style (I know it was the early 2000s, but that’s no excuse!). (Also: my love for the late-game boys is intense.) Rod, along with the return of Amir and introduction of Sanjay, almost redeem the others, but overall? Trash.įor those of you wondering why this game is so high on my list if I hate all the boys available to romance for the first half of the game, let me just say this: At least I have strong feelings. It’s also, let’s just say, less than ideal that it takes until Plan #3, arguably halfway through the game, to unlock a boy who’s actually nice to you. The over-abundance of icy-hearted rude boys really drags down the overall quality of boys to be found here. Allen is potentially the worst the series has ever written. These! Boys! Are! Trash! These are some bad boys! And not in a fun “rides a motorcycle and doesn’t take shit from anyone” way! We’re talking about some “stop insulting the person you’re dating” garbage-tier boys. Ask your friends who played Harvest Moon: Cute who they married. There’s really only one good choice, and it’s Rock. I have thoughts about doing little “love interest power rankings” for various Harvest Moon games, and the bachelorettes in DS will be extremely difficult to sort after the initial “every single one is better than all of the bachelors.”īut despite my love, this isn’t about them this is about the bachelors. Which is such a shame, because the bachelorettes in the DS series are great! They’re all perfect. The writers had the capacity to create good love interests they just chose not to, at least where players interested in romancing guys were concerned.Ĭute is a little bit of a disaster on the bachelor front. The bachelors being awful is exacerbated by the fact that I really like the Wonderful Life bachelorettes! I’m a basic bitch, so you know I love Celia. The graphics are early 2000s ugly, and one of the three bachelors just completely sucks. While character personality is important, looks will also be factored in, as will variety of bachelors in a particular title.Īnother Wonderful Life features some of my least favorite bachelors from the DS era (I know this is chronologically earlier, but I played the DS series first, so that will always be my reference point). The only games being included are mainline games (so no Rune Factory) released in the U.S. This spans from More Friends of Mineral Town up to the Story of Seasons split. The rules are as follows: Only games I have familiarity with are up for ranking. With that in mind, I give you: Harvest Moon games ranked by their bachelors. Your bachelorettes are typically fine, if a little bland, but the bachelors tend to be… iffy, to say the least. Harvest Moon’s love interests are, in general, pretty hit or miss.

Ghostrunner 2 trailer12/5/2023 SCORE : 8.5/10 As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 8.5. Ghostrunner 2 - Announce Trailer PS5 Games Introducing Ghostrunner 2, the highly anticipated katana slashing, cyberpunk sequel Jack is back and taking on new enemies in the. Unfortunately a concrete release date wasn’t announced and instead we’re left with a very wide ‘2023’, but with only half the year left, it’d stand to reason that 505 would want to avoid the busy and high-quality release winter schedule, so maybe we’ll see it sooner than expected?įollow us for more entertainment coverage on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. If not, she at least gives Ghostrunner a great note to end on and raises the bar even higher for the upcoming Ghostrunner 2. Towards the end of the trailer we get a glimpse at what does look like gameplay, compared to the cinematic first two-thirds, and it closes out with a robotic looking character that could be friend or foe, we’ll have to wait to find that out. This certainly sounds like an RPG-lite experience to us. Perhaps what most fans of the game weren’t expecting was the inclusion of a new dialogue system, potentially indicating a more RPG-lite approach to the gameplay, which allows the player to converse with NPC’s in the central hub of the game, outside of missions. Related: PlayStation Showcase: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gameplay Finally Shown, It Looks Better Than We Thought Possible If this is indeed the case, the game will be moving away from it’s predecessor’s constrained environments and to something bigger and potentially better, allowing for much more player inventiveness to get from A to B. Set a year on, the trailer shows everything we expected and more, with the usual free-running, grappling etc we grew to love in the first one, but this time with the added abilities to push enemies to their death, as some sort of Star Wars force like move, as well as what looks like more of an open world, with the player hopefully able to ride that motorcycle we see in the trailer. The sequel looks to take up where the first one finished, with Jack having destroyed both Mara and the Architect, and allowing humanity to ‘choose its own destiny’.
